Mahama Cuts Sod for Girls’ STEM School at Busunu in Honour of Late Mother

President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut sod for the construction of a Girls’ STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) school at Busunu, as part of his ongoing “Resetting Ghana Tour” of the Savannah Region.

The ceremony, held in Busunu in the Savannah Region, forms part of government’s broader agenda to expand access to science and technology education for girls and promote gender inclusion in technical fields.

The initiative is expected to strengthen practical learning and equip students with skills relevant to the country’s development needs.

Speaking at the event, the President was joined by traditional leaders and residents of Busunu, the hometown of his late mother.

The chiefs and people expressed appreciation for the project and assured that the school, once completed, will be named in honour of the President’s late mother as a lasting tribute.

The proposed Girls’ STEM school is expected to serve as a major educational boost for the Savannah Region and surrounding communities.

It aligns with national efforts to increase female participation in STEM disciplines and bridge the gender gap in science-related education across Ghana.

When completed, the facility is expected to become a centre of excellence for girls pursuing science and technology careers, while also contributing to regional development and human capital growth.
