The Acting Savannah Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Alhaji Suleman Ahmed, has disclosed plans by the Authority to collaborate with key stakeholders to telecast and project live matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Damongo Astro Turf.
Speaking on Kasha FM's Weekend Sports programme on Saturday, June 6, 2026, Alhaji Ahmed said the initiative is aimed at creating an exciting fan experience, promoting community engagement, and boosting tourism activities in the Savannah Region during the global football showpiece.
The initiative forms part of the nationwide 16×16 Activation, a World Cup fan experience being spearheaded by TRiBE Culture Fest in partnership with the Ghana Tourism Authority, the United States Embassy, and other relevant stakeholders ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The project seeks to bring live World Cup viewing parties and cultural activities to all 16 regions of Ghana, with the Damongo Astro Turf selected as the host venue for the Savannah Region.
Beyond football, the programme aims to celebrate Ghana's rich cultural heritage and foster unity among diverse communities through music, arts, tourism, and entertainment.
Alhaji Suleman Ahmed expressed optimism that the initiative would not only provide football enthusiasts in the Savannah Region with an unforgettable World Cup experience but also stimulate local tourism and economic activities.
He therefore called on corporate bodies, businesses, development partners, and individuals interested in supporting the event to come on board to ensure its successful implementation.
