Three Citizens Petition Police Over Alleged Death Threat Against President in Viral TikTok Video

Three concerned citizens from the Savannah Region have formally petitioned the Northern Regional Police Comand to immediately investigate and arrest Yussif Abdul-Hakim, popularly known on TikTok as "Alhajbarony," over an alleged threat against the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The petitioners contend that statements made in a viral social media video, in which the said TikToker allegedly referenced obtaining a firearm and harming the President, raise serious national security concerns and warrant urgent law enforcement action.

The petition reads as follows

Dear Sir,

PETITION FOR THE IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION AND ARREST OF YUSSIF HAKIM WITH TIKTOK USER NAME ALHAJBARONY, PHONE NUMBER 054 105 4493 FOR ALLEGED THREATS AGAINST THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA

We, Jeremiah Bavug (Jerry Bavug), Adam Mohammed Hassan(Nkpa)  and Abdul-Aziz Alidu concerned citizens of the Savannah Region of the Republic of Ghana, respectfully petition the Ghana Police Service to investigate and take appropriate action regarding a video currently circulating on social media in which a certain Yussif Abdul-Hakim with TikTok username Alhajbarony appears to make serious threats against the life of the President of the Republic of Ghana.

In the said video as attached, the individual is heard making the following statements:

"By the way, American is great mehn. American citizens, you people shouldn't come to Ghana, Ghana sucks mehn. We have a useless and corrupt President in Ghana. If I get the piw piw piw, I am gonna blow his fucking mind mehn....”

The expression "piw piw piw" is widely understood in contemporary usage as a reference to a firearm or gun. This is further demonstrated by the gestures used in the said video(pointing gun at the head). The statement "I am gonna blow his fucking mind," when read in the context of obtaining a firearm, appears to be a direct threat of murder against the President of the Republic.

Commander, what is more worrying is the conditional phrase used in the video “if I get the piw piw piw” his plan is easily executed once he gets the piw piw piw. We are therefore appealing that your respected office treats this request with the urgency it deserves. The gravity of this statement cannot be overstated. Threats directed at the President are not merely personal attacks against an individual officeholder; they are threats against the constitutional authority of the State and have the potential to undermine national security, public order, and democratic governance.

Furthermore, the statement discouraging American citizens from visiting Ghana, coupled with allegations against the President and an apparent threat of violence, has the potential to damage Ghana's international reputation, create fear among members of the public, and incite hostility against public institutions.

In a constitutional democracy governed by the rule of law, political disagreement and criticism of public officials are protected forms of expression. However, threats of violence, assassination, or physical harm fall outside the bounds of lawful democratic discourse and must be treated with the utmost seriousness by law enforcement agencies.

We therefore respectfully request that the Ghana Police Service:

  1. Immediately identify and locate the individual featured in the video.

  2. Obtain and preserve the original recording and all related digital evidence.

  3. Conduct a full investigation into the statements made and the circumstances surrounding the recording.

  4. Determine whether the statements constitute criminal threats, offensive conduct, incitement to violence, or any other offence under the laws of Ghana.

  5. Arrest and prosecute the individual should the investigation establish sufficient grounds for criminal charges.

  6. Investigate whether the individual possesses, has access to, or has attempted to procure any firearm or weapon capable of carrying out the threat.

The Ghana Police Service has a constitutional duty to protect all persons and preserve public order. Given the explicit nature of the alleged threat and the public circulation of the video, we believe there is a compelling public interest in ensuring that the matter is thoroughly investigated and that any person found to have engaged in criminal conduct is dealt with according to law.

We trust that your office will act swiftly to address this matter and reassure the public that threats of violence against any citizen, particularly the President of the Republic, will not be tolerated.

Thank you for your attention and commitment to the maintenance of law and order.

Yours faithfully,

Jerry Bavug
