Northcode Ghana Trains CSOs and Media on Peacebuilding, Advocacy and Policy Engagement in Savannah Region

Northcode Ghana has organized a two-day capacity-building workshop for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and media practitioners in the Savannah Region to strengthen peacebuilding efforts, advocacy skills, and engagement with government policies.

The workshop, held from June 15 to 16, 2026, at the Eco Club House in Damongo, brought together representatives of CSOs and media organizations to explore collaborative approaches to promoting peace, unity, and development in the region.

The training formed part of Northcode Ghana's ongoing commitment to fostering social cohesion and empowering stakeholders to play active roles in maintaining peace within their communities.

Facilitating the workshop was Mr. Abdul Hayi Moomen, former GTV/GBC24 news anchor and editor, who currently serves as Head of Corporate Affairs at the University for Development Studies (UDS). He led discussions on the critical role of the media and civil society in shaping public opinion and promoting peaceful coexistence.

According to Mr. Moomen, while security agencies such as the Police Service and the Military contribute significantly to maintaining law and order, the media and CSOs have a unique responsibility in influencing public attitudes and behaviours.

He noted that equipping these groups with the necessary knowledge and communication skills would enable them to effectively engage communities, reduce violence and conflict, and support efforts aimed at building a more peaceful society.

"By empowering CSOs and the media to communicate effectively with the public, we can help reduce crime, violence, and conflict, thereby easing pressure on security agencies and creating a more habitable society," he said.

Mr. Moomen cited Switzerland as an example of a country that has successfully fostered peace and stability through strong civic engagement and social responsibility.

Also speaking at the workshop, Mr. Edean Naa, Fundraising Officer and Project Quality Coordinator at Northcode Ghana, emphasized the importance of collaboration between CSOs and the media in advancing peacebuilding and development initiatives.

He explained that the workshop was designed to provide a platform for participants to exchange ideas and identify opportunities within the media landscape that could enhance the reach and impact of civil society programmes.

"Development is about changing the mindset of people, and the media has the power to reach almost everyone, especially when local languages are used to communicate effectively," he stated.

The forum provided participants with an opportunity to learn from experts, contribute to discussions, and develop strategies for future partnerships aimed at promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development in the Savannah Region.

Organizers expressed optimism that the strengthened collaboration between CSOs and the media would contribute significantly to conflict prevention, community engagement, and long-term peacebuilding efforts across the region.
