Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has engaged key stakeholders and civil society organisations as part of preparations for the implementation of the Damongo Water Project, a major initiative expected to provide safe and reliable water to more than one million people upon completion.
The stakeholder engagement, held at Kasha Restaurant in Damongo, brought together representatives from various institutions and civil society organisations to discuss critical aspects of the project and strengthen collaboration ahead of its implementation.
Delivering the opening address, the Northern Regional Chief Manager of Ghana Water Limited, Ing. Rashid Braimah Soale, reaffirmed the company’s readiness to execute the project and assured beneficiary communities of its commitment to providing safe, clean and potable drinking water.
“Our commitment remains unwavering in ensuring that communities benefit from sustainable access to safe, clean and potable water through the successful implementation of this project,” he said.
The Chief Manager in charge of Lands and Estates, Surveyor Perpetua Asomani, led discussions on key preparatory processes, including land acquisition, resettlement and compensation, describing them as essential prerequisites for the successful execution of the project.
She encouraged stakeholders to support the process to ensure smooth implementation while safeguarding the rights and interests of affected persons.
According to Ghana Water Limited, the Damongo Water Project is expected to significantly improve water supply in the area, benefiting more than one million people when completed.
The company also announced that the next phase of stakeholder engagement will be community-based, with consultations involving traditional authorities, assembly members, youth groups, women’s groups and other community stakeholders to promote inclusive participation and ensure the project’s successful implementation.
