Yagbonwura Commissions Guidance and Counselling Centre for Damongo SHS


The King and Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has strengthened his commitment to education by officially handing over a modern Guidance and Counselling Centre to Damongo Senior High School while highlighting the impact of the Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I Educational Fund.


The educational fund, established in 2024, was created to support brilliant but financially disadvantaged students in pursuing higher education.


Speaking on behalf of the Overlord during the handover ceremony on July 23, 2026, at the four court of the school,  the Coordinator of the Educational Fund, Mr. Habib Muftawu Borejinkpar, described the new facility as a centre of hope, mentorship and transformation that would provide students with the guidance and emotional support needed to reach their full potential.


He disclosed that the fund has invested more than GH¢300,000 in supporting tertiary students across Ghana, including beneficiaries currently studying Dentistry and Medicine in the People’s Republic of China.



The Savannah Regional Director of Education, Mr. Bright A. Lawoe, commended the Overlord for his unwavering commitment to education, expressing confidence that the new Guidance and Counselling Centre would improve student welfare and academic performance.


Similarly, the Savannah Regional Minister, Lawyer Salisu Be-Awuribe, described the project as a historic intervention for Gonjaland and urged that qualified professionals be deployed to manage the facility to ensure effective counselling services.



Receiving the facility, the Headmaster of Damongo Senior High School, Mr. Di-Yakah Ibrahim Salifu, thanked the Overlord on behalf of the school’s management, staff and students. 


He said the centre would provide a safe and confidential space for students to receive emotional support, personal guidance and career counselling, helping them overcome social and psychological challenges while improving academic outcomes.


The commissioning of the Guidance and Counselling Centre reinforces the Yagbonwura’s vision of promoting quality education, youth empowerment and human capital development across the Gonja Traditional Kingdom.
