West Gonja Municipal Assembly Disburses Second Tranche of Government Support to PWDs

The West Gonja Municipal Assembly has disbursed the second tranche of government financial support to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality to help expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

The presentation ceremony, held on Thursday, July 2, saw beneficiaries receive cheques under the government’s support programme aimed at promoting economic empowerment among persons with disabilities.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of persons with disabilities.

He stated that the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has increased the allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund dedicated to PWDs from 3 percent to 5 percent.

According to the MCE, the increased allocation will now be disbursed on a quarterly basis to ensure beneficiaries receive timely support for their economic activities.

Hon. Castro urged the beneficiaries to use the funds strictly for their intended purposes, particularly in expanding their businesses and improving their sources of income.

The Municipal Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), Mr. Fusieni Amin, expressed gratitude to the Municipal Chief Executive and the government for the continued support.

He described the intervention as a significant boost for persons with disabilities in the municipality and encouraged all beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely to achieve the objectives of the programme.
