Member of Parliament for Ketu North in the volta region, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, has donated sports equipment and GH¢10,000 to support the Ketu North team ahead of the upcoming Volta Regional Inter-District Sports Festival.
The donation, made on his behalf through his constituency office, is aimed at helping the district’s athletes adequately prepare for the competition and proudly represent Ketu North.
The items presented to the team include jerseys for both the boys’ and girls’ teams, two footballs, three sets of stockings, 40 pairs of athletic spikes and four boxes of pull assists, in addition to the GH¢10,000 cash contribution.
The support is expected to ease some of the logistical and sporting equipment challenges confronting the team as preparations intensify for the festival.
Hon. Agbana, in a facebook post on Saturday, August 15, 2026 however, stressed that while such interventions are important, they cannot provide a sustainable solution to the challenges facing school sports in Ghana.
He noted that many schools continue to lack the basic equipment and facilities required to train and develop young athletes, while several districts struggle to mobilise even the necessary transportation costs to get participants to competitions.
According to the Ketu North MP, the country must move beyond occasional and piecemeal interventions and begin treating sports as an essential component of education.
He argued that without a deliberate investment in sports infrastructure, equipment, coaching and athlete development at the grassroots level, Ghana may struggle to produce athletes capable of competing successfully on the international stage.
