The Assemblyman for the Hangaline Electoral Area in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region, Hon. Gorden Kumatey, popularly known as Flemzy, has facilitated entrepreneurship training for more than 70 young women in his electoral area.
The training, which commenced on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Savannah Bites & Brews Pub in Damongo, is aimed at equipping participants with practical skills that can help them create sustainable livelihoods and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.
The training is being implemented in phases, beginning with grilling, and will subsequently cover pastries, makeup, bead making, soap making and other vocational skills on scheduled dates.
The initiative forms part of the Mastercard Foundation’s HAPPY Programme, a four-year project designed to transform the growing demand for soybean, rice, tomato and poultry products into employment and market opportunities for young people.
The programme seeks to equip 326,000 young people, particularly young women, with the skills and tools needed to access work opportunities while promoting the participation of young women and persons with diverse abilities in the agricultural sector.
Addressing participants at the training, Hon. Gorden Kumatey urged them to take the programme seriously and actively participate in all the training sessions.
He said the skills acquired through the programme could serve as an important foundation for entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.
According to him, entrepreneurship remains an important pathway to success regardless of one’s profession, and participants must therefore approach the training with commitment, discipline and seriousness.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity by putting their newly acquired skills into practice and exploring ways to turn them into viable businesses.
