The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, has undertaken a two-day working visit to inspect ongoing development projects across the municipality.
The exercise, which forms part of the Assembly’s monitoring and supervision efforts, is aimed at assessing the progress, quality of work, and ensuring the timely completion of projects being executed in various communities.
The MCE was accompanied by the Municipal Director and other officials of the Assembly.
On the first day of the inspection tour, the team visited the Busunu Cattle Market as well as several water and educational infrastructure projects.
These included a mechanised borehole at Abukari Kura, another mechanised borehole at Busunu Adrisu Kura, a six-unit classroom block at the Agric Settlement, and a three-unit classroom block at Wawato.
The second day of the visit saw the team inspect additional facilities, including the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound at Achulokura, the CHPS Compound at Sor No. 2, the CHPS Compound at Damongo Zongo, and the Shopping Centre at Damongo.
The inspection provided the Assembly with the opportunity to evaluate the pace of work, identify challenges affecting implementation, and engage contractors on measures to ensure the successful and timely completion of the projects.
Speaking in an interview with Kashafmonline.com on the sidelines of the inspection, the Municipal Director, who spoke on behalf of the MCE, expressed satisfaction with the level of work done by the contractors, although he noted that none of the projects had been completed within their stipulated contractual timelines.
He attributed the delays in some cases to difficulties faced by contractors in transporting construction materials to project sites, particularly in areas where poor road networks have hindered accessibility.
The Municipal Director indicated that the Assembly is aware of the challenges confronting contractors and will continue to engage them to find practical solutions to ensure that all projects are completed to the required standards.
He further assured contractors that the Assembly has made provisions for the payment of outstanding funds upon the satisfactory completion of their respective projects.
According to him, the funds are already available in the Assembly’s accounts and will be released once contractors fulfill their contractual obligations and complete the projects accordingly.
