Residents of Ngbaripe, Alhassan- Kura near the Galamsey Station in Damongo, are raising alarm over worsening sanitation conditions due to uncontrolled dumping of refuse near a public toilet facility.
The affected area, which serves as a shared space for residents, has seen increasing volumes of waste being dumped indiscriminately, posing serious health risks.
Kasha News visited the location after receiving several complaints from community members, and witnessed firsthand the extent of the unsanitary conditions.
According to Abubakari Mariama, a resident whose home shares a boundary with the public toilet, the situation is becoming unbearable.
“There are two refuse containers provided, but both are full. With no alternatives, people are now dumping refuse directly on the ground,” she said.
“The worst part is that those of us living near the toilet are constantly exposed to unpleasant smells and potential disease outbreaks.”
The residents are appealing to the West Gonja Municipal Assembly to act urgently by providing additional waste bins and improving waste collection services in the area.
They fear that if no action is taken, the current situation could escalate into a public health crisis.
“We are only asking for timely intervention. The situation is bad and could get worse if nothing is done,” Mariama added.
Community leaders are also calling for increased public education on proper waste disposal practices to help curb the trend.
Kasha News will continue to follow developments on this story.
