Hon. Yusif Sulemana engages a top Chinese mining firm on technology, human resource exchange, and sustainable mining practices
The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Yusif Sulemana, has led a high-powered government delegation to represent Ghana at the China Mining Conference 2025, one of the world’s leading platforms for dialogue and cooperation in the extractive industry.
On the sidelines of the conference, Hon. Sulemana held a strategic meeting with the Vice President of Zinjin Group of Companies, a global leader in the mining sector, to explore areas of mutual cooperation between Ghana and China.
Key among the discussions were technology transfer, human resource development, and environmentally sustainable mining methods.
Hon. Sulemana appealed to the Zinjin Group to share their advanced technologies for gold extraction that do not rely on mercury or other harmful chemicals, a major environmental concern in Ghana’s small-scale mining sector. He noted that adopting cleaner technologies would help safeguard lives and ecosystems while improving gold recovery efficiency.
The Deputy Minister also proposed a bilateral student exchange programme between Ghanaian and Chinese universities to enhance the technical knowledge and research capacity of young professionals in the mining industry.
He further conveyed Ghana’s willingness to offer selected mining concessions to large-scale investors like Zinjin, provided they commit to responsible mining practices and community development.
Hon. Sulemana encouraged the Chinese mining giant and similar companies to support the Ghana Geological Survey Authority and local artisanal miners through technical training and equipment support.
According to him, such partnerships are vital to the success of the government’s Cooperative Mining Scheme, which aims to formalize small-scale mining operations and eliminate illegal mining (galamsey).
The Ghanaian delegation also toured the Zinjin Mining operational site, where they observed the company’s cutting-edge technology, safety standards, and environmentally sound mining procedures.
Hon. Sulemana commended Zinjin for its commitment to sustainable mining and expressed optimism that closer collaboration between Ghana and China’s mining sectors would yield positive outcomes for both economies.
