West Gonja MCE Cuts Sod for CHPS Compound at Damongo Zongo

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the West Gonja Municipal Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, has cut sod for the construction of a CHPS compound at Damongo Zongo in the Savannah Region.

The sod-cutting ceremony, held on December 24, 2025, marked the commencement of the project aimed at improving access to primary healthcare services for residents of the area.

Addressing the gathering, the MCE highlighted the utilisation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), noting that health remains a key development priority for the Assembly.

He explained that consultations with the Municipal Health Directorate identified the need for an additional CHPS compound in the Zongo area, which is part of the municipality’s four CHPS zones.

Consequently, a joint decision by the Assembly and the Member of Parliament for Damongo was taken to construct three CHPS compounds at Sor No. 2, Achulo Kura, and Damongo Zongo.

According to Hon. Castro, the Damongo Zongo CHPS compound will be funded through the MP’s share of the Common Fund, and residents were urged to prioritise development over partisan interests.

The project, which has been awarded to Kanyiti Wale Company Limited, is expected to be completed within six months. Community leaders confirmed that adequate land has been secured to allow for future expansion of the facility.

On behalf of the Municipal Health Director, Alhaji Mumuni Ayatulaih commended the initiative, describing it as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the municipality.

He expressed optimism that the project would be completed on schedule to serve the health needs of residents.
