Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I has supported Ghana’s U-15 teams with GH₵50,000 after their recent tournament in Burkina Faso.
The donation was made during a courtesy visit by the teams to the Jakpa Palace on Friday, 5th December 2025.
The gesture comes in response to an earlier appeal for assistance by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to help cushion the teams following their participation in the recently concluded competitions.
Addressing the delegation on behalf of the King, Benkrowura Saaka, spokesperson for the Yagbonwura, applauded the young players for their courage and commitment.
He shared personal experiences from his own youth to motivate the teams, praising particularly the female side for winning silver and bringing honour to both Ghana and the Gonja Kingdom.
He noted that the Yagbonwura was grateful for the visit and wished he had more time to host the players.
The GH₵50,000 donation, he said, was meant as a symbolic “water for the journey” a mark of the King’s goodwill, fatherly support, and encouragement as the players continue to pursue their dreams.
Head coach of the male U-15 team, Salifu Fatawu, speaking on behalf of the GFA, expressed deep appreciation to the Yagbonwura. He explained that two squads, boys and girls participated in the competition.
The male team faced a challenging group and exited earlier than anticipated, while the female team advanced to the finals, ultimately placing second after a spirited contest against the host nation.
Coach Fatawu praised the resilience of the squads, stressing that the silver-medal finish was a commendable feat. He added that the King’s support and prayers were instrumental in motivating the young athletes throughout their journey.
The GFA delegation reaffirmed its dedication to developing youth football across Ghana and expressed optimism about forging stronger bonds with traditional leaders, especially in nurturing young talents from the northern regions.
The teams left the palace inspired and hopeful, motivated by the Yagbonwura’s kindness and words of motivation as they prepared for future regional and international tournaments.
