The Member of Parliament for Bole/Bamboi and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Yussif Sulemana, has donated 11 motorbikes to the Savannah and Upper West Regional Blue Water Guards to enhance their operations.
The donation forms part of government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) and protect Ghana’s water bodies and forest resources.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Yussif Sulemana explained that the motorbikes would significantly improve the mobility and response capacity of the Blue Water Guards, especially in hard-to-reach communities where illegal mining activities are prevalent.
According to him, the protection of water resources remains a top priority of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, noting that the Blue Water Guards play a critical role in safeguarding rivers and wetlands from environmental degradation.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the motorbikes responsibly and solely for official duties, emphasizing that the equipment was provided to support national development and environmental sustainability.
Officials of the Blue Water Guards from both regions expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as timely and impactful.
They pledged their commitment to intensifying patrols and enforcing environmental laws to protect water bodies for present and future generations.
