Damongo Agric College Begins Commercial Seed Production, Graduates 175 Students

The Principal of Damongo Agric College, Alhaji Mohammed Nuhu Adams, has announced the establishment of commercial production of certified and foundation maize and soybean seeds in partnership with the Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (SARI).

He made the announcement during the college’s 2025 graduation ceremony held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the school’s ceremonial grounds in Damongo.

According to the Principal, the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen agricultural production and improve practical training for students.

A total of 175 students graduated from the college out of the 179 students admitted in 2024. The graduating class consisted of 44 females and 131 males.

Alhaji Mohammed Nuhu Adams highlighted several achievements recorded by the college over the past academic year, including major renovation works on the female hostel, male hostel, Oxfarm Hall, administration block, and classrooms.

The college also expanded practical agricultural training through the establishment of fish ponds with a combined capacity of 1,200 tilapia and catfish to support aquaculture, vegetable production, and agroforestry training.

In collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) and WEE NORTH, the college trained 55 women in tractor operations and post-harvest management to promote women’s participation in modern agriculture.

Additionally, the institution established an E-library, digital career platform, and workplace experience learning programmes to enhance students’ academic and career development.

Under the BRIDGE and ACTIVATE projects, the college received support including a new tractor, threshers, planter, dryer, handheld agricultural tools, and two solar-powered mechanized boreholes for water supply and aquaponics activities.

Despite these achievements, the Principal noted that the college continues to face challenges such as inadequate lecture halls, lack of an auditorium, insufficient accommodation, inadequate library space, shortage of non-teaching staff, and encroachment on school lands.

He, however, expressed optimism that the Damongowura would support efforts to address the land encroachment issue.

Alhaji Mohammed Nuhu Adams urged the graduating students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to contribute to food security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.

He congratulated the Class of 2025 for their dedication and academic success.
