The Paramount Chief of Damongo, Kelly Seidu Braimah Boresah I, has directed the immediate removal of all unauthorised structures and trading activities on pavements and around the Damongo Daily Market construction site, with police and military-backed enforcement operations expected to commence this weekend.
The directive forms part of efforts to maintain order, improve safety, and ensure the smooth execution of the ongoing Damongo Daily Market project.
In a statement issued on Thursday, June 25, 2026, by Chalewura Kanamaluwe Techi Dari on behalf of Damongowura, residents and traders operating within the affected areas are advised to relocate to the designated Saturday Market to avoid any inconvenience or loss during the exercise.
The statement reads:
"Chalewura Kanamaluwe Techi Dari, today, 25th June 2026, met with the Regional Police Commander to discuss security operations around the Damongo Daily Market construction site and the unauthorised trading activities on pavements around the Damongo Lorry Park/Station.
The public is hereby informed that, beginning Monday 29th June and throughout the week, a major enforcement exercise will be undertaken to clear all unauthorised structures and trading activities within the affected areas.
Residents are therefore advised to inform their mothers, sisters, brothers, and other family members engaged in such businesses to relocate to the designated Saturday Market to avoid any inconvenience or loss.
The directives of Damongowura must be respected and complied with in the interest of order, safety, and the successful execution of the market project.
The Military also paid a courtesy call on Damongowura, the Paramount Chief, who emphasised the urgent need to clear all pavements and areas around the construction site. Military operations may commence on Saturday, while the Police are expected to begin their operations on Monday.
Additionally, security personnel will be present during tonight's Fire Festival activities under the auspices of Damongowura. The public is advised to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly. Anyone who attempts to foment trouble or disturb the peace will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
We urge everyone to cooperate with the security agencies and traditional authorities to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and successful exercise."
