The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Gonja Municipality, Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, has made a strong case for technological and investment support to help improve access to safe and clean drinking water in the municipality and the Savannah Region at large.
Hon. Castro made the appeal during a partnership meeting held as part of a working visit to China, where he engaged with the Managing Director and management team of Baov Company Ltd on potential areas of cooperation in water supply and infrastructure development.
Addressing the meeting, the MCE highlighted the persistent water challenges facing Damongo and several communities across the Savannah Region.
He explained that the area's water table presents unique challenges for water extraction, making it necessary to adopt modern technologies and innovative solutions to ensure sustainable access to potable water.
According to him, rapid population growth, increasing demand for water, and the effects of climate variability have placed additional pressure on existing water systems, underscoring the need for strategic partnerships to address the situation.
Hon. Castro emphasized that access to clean water remains a critical component of public health, economic growth, and social development.
He therefore called on Baov Company Ltd to explore opportunities for collaboration with the West Gonja Municipal Assembly in deploying modern water treatment and supply technologies that can provide long-term solutions to the municipality's water needs.
The Managing Director of Baov Company Ltd and his team expressed appreciation for the engagement and indicated their willingness to explore areas of mutual interest that could contribute to improving water infrastructure and enhancing the living conditions of residents.
The visit forms part of efforts by the West Gonja Municipal Assembly to attract investment, technology transfer, and development partnerships aimed at accelerating socio-economic development in the municipality.
If successful, the proposed collaboration is expected to strengthen water supply systems, improve public health outcomes, and support the overall development agenda of West Gonja and the Savannah Region.
