A defeated aspirant in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Damongo Constituency Deputy Secretary election, Solomon Alhassan Ewuntomah, has petitioned the party to challenge the outcome of the constituency elections held on Saturday, 11 July 2026, citing alleged inconsistencies in the declared results.
In a petition addressed to the appropriate party authorities, Mr. Ewuntomah called for an immediate review of the election results, arguing that the figures announced by the Electoral Committee did not accurately reflect the votes cast.
According to the petition, his polling agent declined to endorse the official declaration of results due to concerns over the tallying process and the alleged discrepancies observed during the collation.
The petition outlined the following figures announced after the election:
* Total Votes Cast: 720
* Solomon Alhassan Ewuntomah: 357 votes
* Ndodu John Adoshi: 358 votes
* Rejected Ballots: 4
* Total Votes Accounted For: 719
* Unaccounted Ballot: 1
Mr. Ewuntomah contended that the figures presented raise questions about the integrity of the electoral process, noting that one ballot remains unaccounted for based on the official results.
He has therefore appealed to the party’s leadership and the Constituency Election Committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure that justice is served.
“I humbly write to challenge and seek redress regarding the elections held on Saturday, 11 July 2026, for the position of Deputy Secretary of the NPP Damongo Constituency,” the petition stated, adding that the released results “did not tally with the outcome of votes cast after a thorough review.”
The petitioner urged the party to address the matter promptly to safeguard peace, fairness, transparency, accountability and adherence to the rule of law.
Copies of the petition were forwarded to several stakeholders, including the Damongo Constituency Election Committee, the NPP Savannah Regional Chairman, the Member of Parliament for Damongo, the Constituency Chairman-elect, the Secretary-elect, the Constituency Research and Elections Officer, the Electoral Commission of Ghana in the Savannah Region, and members of the media.
As of the time of publication, the NPP Damongo Constituency Election Committee had not publicly responded to the petition or indicated whether an investigation into the concerns raised would be initiated.
