MTN Ghana supported 2026 Yagbum Damba festival with a GH¢20,000, airtime worth GH¢1,000, as well as drinks and water, to support the celebration.
Presenting the donation on behalf of MTN Ghana, the Regional Manager, said the company was honoured to partner with the Gonja Traditional Council in celebrating Damba, one of the most important cultural festivals in the Gonja Traditional Area.
He described Damba as more than a festive occasion, noting that the celebration serves as an important platform for preserving Gonja history, faith, culture and identity.
According to him, the festival, which traditionally commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed, has over the years evolved into a major celebration of chieftaincy, thanksgiving, communal renewal and unity.
“Damba is a time for families and communities to reunite, honour traditional authority, reflect on the year gone by and renew their shared commitment to peace and progress,” he said.
He noted that activities including prayer, drumming, dancing and royal processions, as well as the passing of customs and traditions from elders to the younger generation, play a critical role in keeping Gonja heritage alive.
The MTN Ghana representative said the values promoted by Damba resonate strongly with the company’s commitment to communities across the country.
“For 30 years, we have grown alongside communities across Ghana. Beyond providing telecommunications and digital services, we remain committed to being a force for good, supporting the traditions and institutions that give our communities identity and strength,” he said.
He explained that MTN’s support for traditional festivals forms part of its broader commitment to community development and cultural preservation.
He added that festivals such as Damba help preserve history, strengthen social cohesion, promote cultural tourism and stimulate local economic activity, while providing communities with an opportunity to reflect on their progress and set priorities for the future.
As part of its participation in the celebration, MTN Ghana will also deploy experience centres at strategic locations during the festival to provide customer support and ensure a seamless service experience.
The company will further use the occasion to engage with customers, listen to their concerns and gain deeper insight into their evolving needs.
The representative said MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary was an opportunity to acknowledge the communities whose trust and loyalty had contributed significantly to the company’s growth over the past three decades.
“As MTN Ghana marks 30 years of service, we recognise that our journey has been made possible by the trust and loyalty of communities across the Gonja Traditional Area,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to the people of Gonjaland for their continued confidence in MTN Ghana, emphasising that the company’s anniversary celebration was not only about its achievements but also about the people and communities who had contributed to its journey.
He said the people of Gonjaland remained an important part of MTN Ghana’s 30-year story.
The MTN Ghana representative wished the Chiefs and Elders and the people of the Gonja Traditional Area a peaceful and successful Damba Festival.
He expressed hope that the celebration would strengthen family and community bonds, uphold the dignity of Gonja chieftaincy, inspire the younger generation and promote reconciliation and shared development.
