Ghana recorded 1.3 million international tourist arrivals in 2025, representing a 1.4 percent increase over the 1.29 million arrivals recorded in 2024, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has disclosed.
The figure was disclosed by Mr. Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi, who represented the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, at the 2026 Savannah Regional Tourism Awards held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Wuripe and Sons Royal Lodge in Bole, Savannah Region.
The awards ceremony brought together key stakeholders in the tourism industry, traditional authorities, local government representatives, the media and other sector players to celebrate individuals, businesses, institutions and organisations contributing to the growth and development of tourism in the Savannah Region.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Kusi said the increase in international tourist arrivals reflected the continued growth and potential of Ghana’s tourism sector. He stressed the need for stakeholders to sustain efforts to improve the visitor experience while promoting Ghana’s diverse tourism attractions to both domestic and international audiences.
The 2026 Savannah Regional Tourism Awards, held under the theme “Celebrating Excellence Beyond Borders – The Blackstar Experience,” therefore provided an important platform for recognising these efforts at the regional level. The ceremony celebrated outstanding contributions to the tourism and hospitality industry while highlighting the role of individuals, businesses, institutions and organisations in advancing Ghana’s tourism agenda and strengthening the country’s appeal as a destination.
The awards ceremony covered a broad range of categories, including accommodation, catering, travel trade, media, tourism promotion and honorary recognitions, providing a platform to honour businesses, institutions and individuals whose efforts continue to shape the region’s tourism landscape.
The 2026 Savannah Regional Tourism Awards therefore served not only as a platform to celebrate outstanding contributors but also as a reminder of the collective responsibility of stakeholders to promote Ghana’s tourism potential, improve the visitor experience and strengthen the Black Star Experience for visitors from across the world.
